How To Make Money As A Stay At Home Mom

As a stay at home mom, don't think that you have limited options when it comes to making money.

Between a home based business, business services, online business and everything in between, there is sure to be a way of making money that suits you.

Whislt there is already alot of information online about 'how to make money' this hubpage aims to tell you a little more about my own personal quest to acheive this same goal. Including what I have learnt on the topic in general and some of my favorite links, resources, tips and articles for the stay at home mom who is trying to make money.

When I first started out on my journey to make money and be a SAHM, my children were 11, 1 & 6 months. You might call me crazy to start a business with such young children to care for plus one fast approaching the terrible teenage years.

On reflection, perhaps it was not the smartest move, but at that time I knew that if I didn't act on my desire for an idependent income fear might overcome me and I would end up back in my dreeded J.O.B.

As I sat down to plan my business goals, structure and action plan I had no idea what I was doing. I wrote and sat and scratch my head and failed to come up with anything I was happy with. So I decided to write a list of the things I was certain my business would be.

Here is that list;

• No products, shipping and taking direct payments.
• A part time opportunity that allowed me to still focus on my mommy duties.
• An online business - I didn't want to have to leave the house simply for the purpose of running my business.
• A residual income that keep paying long after the hard work was done.

• Oh yeah, and I was going to make money. Not millions, just enough to replace my income.

My first attempt to make money involved purchasing a breif full of holes e-book on affiliate maketing using google adwords. Being a total internet marketing novice I had no idea what I was in for, but I'm pretty smart and capeable so decided to give it ago. After learning a ton about keywords, search engines and creating campaigns in adwords I set to work. I spent about $500 and made a tiny $75 in my first month. Dispite following the 'amazing' e-book step by step, I still couldn't understand why it didn't work. The author provided contact details and I asked for some more information. I did get a message back to say that 'that part of the e-book is being updated and will be email shortly'......still waiting for that book! I put it down to a bad experience and moved on.

The next opportunity that I thought would work for me was an affiliate marketing 'turn key' website. Lets just say I never made any money with this one and the experience was worse than the first. I still have the account but can not access it. The administration is so bad that I can not even retrieve a working password so that I can log in and cancel my account. Good thing it doesn't have any on going cost's other wise I might even care.

By this stage, even though I still preffered the affiliate business model to other options I decided to try MLM. While there are plenty of people out there making a great living with these payment plans, I soon realised I would have to recruit a small army to reach the income level I desired. Plus if I keep going at the same pace I had been, even that was going to take another 10 years of hard boring work.

Now, while I was at strike three by this stage, I was far from down and out. I still had the same desires, goals and ideals about my business. I told myself that the right opportunity hadn't come along yet, so I just had to keep my eyes open and keep researching for something that I could do to make money.

So I went back to the beginning. With all that I had learnt I was in a much better position to write that business plan I had struggled with so much at the start. A business plan is so essential to your success it isn't funny. If you are like I was and lack the experience and education on running a business to write a business plan, perhaps you can learn more from my experiences.

As you can tell I was still very attracted to the idea of being an affiliate marketer. Not only is it a relatively simple business model create for the stay at home business owner to create, I felt it was the easiest option for my skillset. I didn't have a product, a website, blog, or credable business contacts.

So I did some more reasearch on this as an option for me. I soon realised that if I was going to sell private label rights (PLR) or digital products, I would have to keep selling to keep making money. While I was prepared to work hard for my dream I also wanted to work smart. What if there was a way I could run an affiliate business from home and make a residual income with very little effort?

I was determind to find a way to 'have it all' so I keep learning and reading as much as I could. Eventually I did find a business that fullfilled my business plan and presented a chance for me to become a home business operator. Keep it real. It is a big bad world out there and some of the opportunities, websites and products availalbe don't do what they claim to do. Sometimes they work, but it's not as easy and quick as you were lead to believe.

I got to the point where I knew my credit card details by heart! That's how often I reached into my purse and bought some product or membership that I thought was the answer. I bet it's not the first time you've heard a story like that. So on reflection, I have reached the following conclusion.

There is NO magic answer when it comes to making money. What is does take is a desire to learn, learn, and learn. Then you need enough energy and desire to do, do and do. It is often the years and months that we spend chasing the dream that perpares us and gives use the necessary skills for the success that is waiting for us in our future.
